LOCATION: THABA NCHU

DESCRIPTION:

The Maria Moroka National Park is located about 70 km east of Bloemfontein, alongside the popular Protea Hotel Black Mountain...

The park lies at the foot of the Thaba Nchu Mountain which shelters the town and provides a scenic backdrop for inhabitants and visitors alike. Luxurious accommodation is provided here by the Hotel. A variety of activities such as tennis, mini golf, gambling and cabaret shows are offered.

Well-known wildlife species such as zebra, black wildebeest, eland, springbok, blesbok, red hartebeest and white rhino are found here. More than a hundred species of birds, including a variety of aquatic species, have been recorded here. Large flocks of blue crane can, from time to time, be seen in the park.

Visitors can hike the 8km hike through the park and stay in the self catering chalets. Game drives are also available with experienced rangers. The undulating grassy plains embraced by wooden hills, with the mountain standing guard in the north, earned this area the name of "Big Sky Country".
